2013 Infiniti FX37 AWD
The look and design of Infiniti’s FX models have been compared to a “Bionic Cheetah” with the profile of a “giant scarab”. When the FX was unveiled at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, it was described to have “shark-like sculpted headlights, a large trapezoidal grille filled with horizontal dark-chrome waves, and completely functional side air vents.” With this, I agree.
The FX37 is a midsize crossover that seats five and has copious amounts of power, style and technology. The vehicle isn’t the largest vehicle on the road, but demands respect and has some SUV practicality with plenty of cargo space behind the rear flush-folding seats. The front 8 and 10 way power, leather appointed and heated seats are positioned proportionately for the maximum leg room of all occupants in the vehicle. The black lacquer interior trim, power slidin tinted glass one-touch open/ close moonroof and aluminum pedals added a sporty, yet luxurious touch to this week’s driving experience.
Infiniti has done a great job with the performance features of their vehicles. The FX37 has a 3.7 liter V6 engine with 325 horsepower and 267 lb·ft of torque. The Infiniti’s intelligent All Wheel Drive with Snow Mode is pushed by a 7 speed automatic transmission with Adaptive Shift Control and manual shift mode with Downshift Rev Matching features. All of this power and stability rolls through 21 inch 10 spoke graphite finish aluminum alloy wheels.
One of the most unique features is the Around View monitor, complete with moving object detection, front and rear sonar, plus multiple cameras which provide the driver with a bird’s-eye-view of the vehicle and it’s surroundings. Cameras located on the side mirrors, front and back are perfectly calibrated to show a complete and proportionate view around the whole vehicle. If you have ever had trouble parking evenly between the lines, reversing around a low-profile curb and other objects that may appear in your driveway, than this safety feature is made for you.
The Bose 11 speaker premium sound system with CD, MP3 playback capability, USB connection port for an iPod interface and other devices come standard in the FX37. SiriusXM, NavTraffic, NavWeather and Bluetooth connectivity are a few of my favorite features. The ability to stream music from sources like Pandora and Slacker sound great and are easily obtainable through the USB connection or wireless Bluetooth connection. All functions are accessible through the 8-inch VGA color touch screen display along with Infiniti Voice Recognition.
My driving experience with the Infiniti FX37 was unique, but also fulfilled my need for speed, sound, style and luxury. The Infiniti FX37 gets as much as 22 MPG on the highway and 16 MPG on city streets.
