2013 Lexus GX460 Premium

If rock crawling in a full size luxury SUV ever makes it on my bucket list, I can now check it off.

The GX460 comes with all of the luxury and comfort Lexus is known for and is built to go off-road as well. And I’m not talking about traveling on a few graded dirt roads through the countryside; I’m talking about being able to tackle some of the most extreme off-road mountainous or rocky terrain available. I was impressed with the variable speed 4-low crawl settings, adjustable shock absorbers and locking differentials. Options justifying a productive, four-wheeling Moab experience. These user-friendly off-road settings are conveniently located on the center console.

Even though the GX is designed for some of the most extreme off-road scenarios, it is also a functional, roomy and comfortable option for a family of as many as seven to travel long distances. The 10 way power, heated and ventilated leather front seats provide plenty of comfort for the driver and font passenger. The three-zone, automatic climate control and heated middle row outboard leather seats make it very comfortable for up to three more passengers. The rear air suspension with automatic load traveling adjusts for either two more belted passengers in the leather, electronically folding third row seats or for cargo if one or both of the seats are folded flush with the floor. All at the push of a button.

The Premium GX460 comes with a 17 speaker Mark Levinson surround sound audio and video package, complete with subwoofer. Plus, Lexus Enform with destination assist, voice command, and SiriusXM including NavTraffic, NavWeather, sports and stocks engage each of the travelers according to their preferences and entertainment of choice.

I was impressed with the technology and the automatic functions available with this Lexus. The touch screen in the center dash can be utilized as a reverse camera and wide-view front and side monitor pre-collision system equipped with driver attention monitor. Driving the GX with the dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert and intelligent high-beam headlamps make for a stress-free drive over long distances. The electronic, power-folding outside mirrors make it convenient while parking the vehicle in a lot and the automatic, one-touch open/close sunroof enhances the overall driving experience.

Whether driving the GX460 over long distances via highways and freeways or enjoying the outdoors in an extreme four-wheel drive experience, engine power is key. The 4.6L 301 horsepower, 32 valve V8 engine with a 6-speed sequential shift electronically controlled automatic transmission fulfilled any driving experience- with plenty of power to spare!

Although I may not register to compete in the next luxury SUV rock-crawling competition, I do know that the Lexus GX460 is more than capable of accomplishing such a feat with power, style and ultimately, luxury.

Visit a Lexus dealer and ask them about a similar driving experience.
